City Fabrick is collaborating with the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services to develop the Healthy Market Partnership that engages small markets to expand their respective offerings of healthy food and fresh produce.

This effort has focused on developing communications material and providing guidance for businesses owners to make modest changes to their store and produce to de-emphasize sugary drinks, candy, and processed foods and improve access to healthier options. With the growing awareness of inequity in healthy food access during COVID City Fabrick supported the expansion of the Healthy Market Partnership through support from locally distributed CARES Act funding. The healthy market conversion effort provides financial assistance to expand, improve, repair displays and refrigerators, while facilitating access to fresh produce. City Fabrick refined and expanded the healthy market partnership collateral to include signage, price tags, and menu cards, while also providing interior design and space planning assistance, including sourcing material, equipment, and vendors. The initial phase of four market conversions were deployed within a narrow six-month window, with future phases anticipated over the next three years.
