Tactical
The design concept for the Pop-Up Parklet highlighted two of Santa Monica’s two most-prized natural resources: the beach and ocean. Working with local businesses, the temporary parklet was located along the Main Street neighborhood commercial district, was effective in drawing attention and informing the public about the potential for parklets to expand the pedestrian realm in safe and inviting ways. City Fabrick prepared a summary report, which contains survey feedback and recommendations for future public spaces.
Organization
The Santa Monica Parklet demonstrates the viability of temporary interventions through local partnerships and encourages the development of more forms of public open space including green alleys, quasi-public spaces, public plazas, and streetlets.
